There are parts of the body that are stubborn and resistant to diet and exercise, leaving many of our Sugar Land patients with areas of unwanted fat that are nearly impossible to get rid of on your own. Liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the country and can remove fat cells from most body areas from your face to your ankles.

Liposuction with our board-certified plastic surgeon is different than most practices. Dr. Kutty offers liposuction using local anesthetic instead of general anesthesia for many reasons, including less pain and bruising and a faster recovery. General anesthesia comes with its own risks and after-effects and adds a significant cost for an anesthesiologist and fees from a separate facility as liposuction is performed at Luxe Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Kutty will explain your liposuction options and what to expect during recovery during your in-depth consultation. Each liposuction procedure is customized to suit your needs, and your recovery depends on how much fat is removed and the number of treated areas. Liposuction recovery typically includes:

  • Wearing a Compression Garment: You will need to wear this compression garment at all times for the first two to four weeks of recovery and then for 12 hours each day for the next three to four weeks. These garments help to reduce swelling and promote healing.
  • Work Limitations: Liposuction with local anesthesia allows most of our patients to return to work after a few days, but that depends on your profession. Patients who work physically-demanding jobs will need to take longer as you need to avoid strenuous activities for at least four weeks.
  • Exercise and Heavy Lifting: You’ll need to take it easy and avoid lifting objects (including children) over five to ten pounds and stay away from strenuous workouts for four to six weeks or until Dr. Kutty has cleared you to resume your regular workout regimen.
  • Pain and Discomfort: Dr. Kutty may prescribe you medication to ease the healing process, but over the counter options such as Tylenol often manage pain effectively.

It takes time for your body to heal and for all swelling to dissipate so it may take over six months to realize your liposuction results. You can prepare for this process by asking a friend or family member to stay with you for the first 24-48 hours. If you have small children, arrange for help taking care of the kids so you can focus on healing properly and avoid stress and lifting children. Drinking plenty of water and a nutritious diet is an essential part of the recovery process. You can prepare meals beforehand, so you don’t need to worry about cooking while you recover.
