THE BREAST AUGMENTATION PROCESS

During your initial consultation, we’ll determine your breast size and desired shape. Dr. Kutty will provide you with a sizing bra that allows you to try on different implant choices, allowing you to see if what you had in mind looks the way you hoped. Our breast implants are also available in a wide variety of sizes, from 120cc to 800cc. While you’re trying on different sizes, you may realize that you feel more comfortable with larger or smaller implants. This allows Dr. Kutty to plan your procedure precisely.

The two main types of breast implants are silicone and saline:

  • Silicone Implants – These implants are composed of a cohesive gel and come in various sizes pre-filled by the manufacturer. Many patients prefer the natural look and feel of the silicone implant over saline breast implants. Silicone gel mimics the softer feel of real breast tissue, making it difficult to tell that implants have been placed at all. The gel used in silicone implants is designed to stay more in place during a rupture.
  • Saline Implants – Saline breast implants are made up of a thin shell filled with a salt-water solution to achieve the desired size. Because they are placed while empty, saline implants can be rolled up tightly and placed through a very small incision that is easily hidden. Additionally, saline breast implants are slightly firmer in feel than silicone gel implants, and they are completely harmless to the human body.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?

During your comprehensive breast augmentation consultation, you’ll meet with our patient coordinator and surgeon to determine the goals of your breast surgery. Once you decide to undergo the breast augmentation procedure, a review of your medical history and current health will determine if this is the right procedure for you. For women who are considering breast enlargement because of changes after pregnancy, we offer a Mommy Makeover, which combines several procedures to reverse the changes to your body after having a child.

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation:

  • Are in good physical health and near an ideal weight
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have breasts that are fully developed
  • Have enough natural breast tissue to cover the implant
  • Have not been diagnosed with cancer or a pre-cancer condition
  • Have no autoimmune disorders
  • Are at least 18 years old for saline implants and 22 years old for silicone implants

DO BREAST IMPLANTS LOOK SMALLER AT FIRST?

When someone gets breast implants, the size and appearance of the breasts can vary during the initial stages of recovery. Here are a few factors to consider:

  • Swelling: After breast augmentation surgery, swelling is common. Swelling can affect the overall size and shape of the breasts, making them appear larger than the final result. As the swelling subsides over time, the breasts may appear smaller.
  • Surgical compression: Surgeons often use compression garments or dressings after breast augmentation surgery to provide support and reduce swelling. These garments can compress the breasts, making them appear slightly smaller initially.

Implant position and settling: Breast implants may initially sit higher on the chest due to muscle tightness and tissue swelling. As the muscles and tissues relax and the implants settle into their final position over the course of a few weeks or months, the breasts may appear to have a more natural shape and size.

Perception and expectations: Perception of breast size can vary from person to person. Some individuals may have expected their breasts to look larger immediately after surgery, while others may perceive their breasts as smaller due to the factors mentioned above.

It’s important to note that the appearance of breast implants can change significantly during the healing process, and the final outcome may not be evident for several months. It’s best to consult with Dr. Kutty in Sugar Land to have personalized information and guidance based on your specific circumstances.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR BREAST IMPLANTS TO DROP?

After breast augmentation surgery, it is common for breast implants to appear high on the chest initially. This is known as “high-riding” or “top-heavy” appearance. Over time, the implants settle into a more natural position, and this process is often referred to as “implant dropping” or “implant settling.”

The timeframe for breast implants to drop can vary from person to person. However, it typically takes about 2 to 6 months for the implants to begin settling into their final position. During this time, the implants gradually descend and the breast tissue adapts to their presence.

It’s important to note that the dropping process is not the same for everyone. Factors such as implant size, placement (above or below the muscle), individual healing characteristics, and the surgical technique used can all influence how quickly or slowly the implants drop. Additionally, some individuals may experience a temporary condition called “bottoming out,” where the implants settle too low on the chest. This may require further evaluation and, in some cases, revision surgery.

If you have concerns about the position of your breast implants or the progress of their dropping, it’s best to consult with our Sugar Land plastic surgeon who can assess your specific situation and provide appropriate guidance.
