UMBILICOPLASTY IN HOUSTON
IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF YOUR BELLY BUTTON
A belly button (umbilicus) is an important visual feature of a person’s abdomen. When a belly button has a strange appearance, it can attract a lot of attention. People who have an unattractive umbilicus are often very self-conscious about it and often avoid wearing clothes that expose the abdomen, even if they have an excellent physique.
Umbilicoplasty is a belly button plastic surgery procedure designed to improve the appearance of an unsightly naval. This procedure can be performed alone or as part of a tummy tuck and is becoming an increasingly popular procedure sought out by both women and men.

THE UMBILICOPLASTY PROCEDURE
Umbilicoplasty surgery requires Dr. Kutty to make an incision within your belly button. Any overlying excess skin and scar tissue are then removed to produce a more natural-looking shape. If there is no hernia and only scarring or loose skin, the umbilicoplasty procedure can be performed under local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia.
An umbilicoplasty is usually performed to:
- Remove scars from piercings or previous surgeries
- Reduce the size of the belly button
- Remove wrinkles and excess skin around the belly button
- Repair a hernia in conjunction with umbilical reshaping
CAUSES OF COMMON BELLY BUTTON PROBLEMS
A very common reason for an unattractive belly button is a poorly treated abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). All too often, the overall appearance of the abdomen after abdominoplasty is acceptable, but the umbilicus looks terrible. Unfortunately, bathing suits and other outfits that expose the midriff can’t be worn because individuals are still self-conscious about their abdominal appearance.
Here are the most common belly button issues and reasons for umbilicoplasty:
- Prior surgery, including laparoscopic surgery (one access point is usually in the umbilicus) and intra-abdominal surgery with incisions that go through the umbilicus
- Many women opt for umbilicoplasty after pregnancy, which causes major stretching of the umbilical skin that typically doesn’t correct afterward
- Old navel piercings result in a flap of skin over the umbilicus, especially after pregnancy
- Extra skin inside the navel; when the umbilical cord is cut at birth, some of the skin may not separate, leaving a piece of skin sitting within the umbilicus
- A hernia at the umbilicus causes a bulge and stretched skin, which may necessitate an umbilicoplasty for loose skin correction
