The Facial Contouring Procedure
Facial contouring involves two procedures—buccal fat pad reduction and neck liposuction. Dr. Kutty uses a local anesthetic, so you're awake during the process but are numbed in the treated areas. This cuts down on recovery time and reduces the risks associated with general anesthesia, which can disqualify some patients from plastic surgery if they have diabetes, heart disease, or another medical condition.
Step 1: Neck Liposuction
The first part of facial contouring is neck liposuction to shape the neck and jawline. Defining this area addresses "jowling," which is the sagging, loosening, and fat accumulating process that alters your jawline and produces a double chin and "turkey neck." That jowling under your chin impacts your jawline and is difficult to reduce through diet and exercise. Neck liposuction removes that fat. Depending on the form of liposuction technology used, neck lipo can also supply a skin tightening effect. The fat removed from the area is gone for good.
Step 2: Buccal Fat Pad Removal
Buccal fat pads are small pockets of fat that sit inside the cheek just below the cheekbone. Everyone has buccal fat pads, but some people have more pronounced cheeks than others, which can create the illusion of a double chin and make you look heavier. The buccal fat pads don't serve a purpose and are safe to remove to provide a sculpted, narrow facial contour. The removal procedure also creates the appearance of high cheekbones and takes around 20 minutes to complete. The incisions are made from inside the cheek, which means no visible scarring.
