For those who are looking to trim and tone their figure through liposuction, you’re not alone. In the latest report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), data shows that liposuction increased in 2017 from the year before, making it the second-most-performed surgical procedure in plastic surgery behind breast augmentation.

The comprehensive report, which lists all plastic surgery data from 2017, also showed that liposuction has been a top-five procedure for the last three years. Other statistical data for liposuction showed:

  • There were a total of 246,354 procedures
  • It was a five percent increase from 2016
  • The majority of the procedures were performed on women (89 percent)
  • The age group with the most procedures was those aged 40-54 (39 percent)
  • The Pacific and Mountain West regions accounted for 31 percent of all procedures

Liposuction can help you reach your body contouring goals by helping to remove stubborn pockets of excess fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. It’s important to remember that liposuction is not a weight-loss solution and you should be at or near a healthy weight before considering the procedure. The procedure can be used on nearly any area of the body that has localized fat, including:

  • Abdomen, love handles, back
  • Hips and thighs
  • Ankles, knees, and calves
  • Buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Face and neck
  • Male breast reduction (gynecomastia)

Your consultation is also an important time when Dr. Kutty will make sure that you’re a suitable candidate for the procedure. Just like any surgery, it’s important to make sure that you’re healthy enough to undergo the treatment. We do this to ensure your safety and to produce the best results possible. If you’re suffering from any medical conditions, on certain prescription drugs such as blood thinners, or not near a healthy weight, you may not be a candidate for this procedure. However, Dr. Kutty will work with you to find an alternative approach to your body contouring goals or help you plan to reach candidacy in the near future.
