The buttocks are one of several areas of the body that are pre-determined by your genetics. Some women simply have a smaller backside than they desire and have been unsuccessful in reaching their ideal size and shape through diet and exercise alone. The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is an increasingly popular body procedure that uses fat from another area of your body to deliver natural-looking buttock augmentation results. It’s common for the BBL to involve transferring fat from the stomach to the buttocks, but this depends on the amount of body fat available.

Body Fat Transfer to Buttocks

Fat transfer buttock augmentation comes with the additional perk of liposuction. Our Sugar Land plastic surgeon removes fat cells from a stubborn area with unwanted fat such as the:

  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • “Love Handles”
  • Arms
  • Upper Back

The fat is then processed using a centrifuge and injected into the buttocks in precise areas to achieve your desired shape and size. The amount of fat needed for your Brazilian Butt Lift depends on your body goals. Your body will naturally absorb some of the fat during the recovery process so initial results may be more substantial.

Buttock augmentation can be done using fat grafting or with silicone buttock implants. Women who have little fat, to begin with, may not be great candidates for the Brazilian Butt Lift.

Pros and Cons of the Brazilian Butt Lift

The BBL combines buttock augmentation and liposuction. The procedure doesn’t involve a foreign object placed in the body, which reduces the risk of allergic reaction and malposition. The small holes necessary to place the fat in the buttocks heal with very minimal scarring and recovery requires little downtime. However, it’s difficult to predict fat re-absorption with the Brazilian Butt Lift, which can go as high as 80 percent in some individuals. Repeat procedures can adjust results but may not reach the ideal size. Buttock implants offer more control on final size and shape but also come with additional risks such as capsular contracture and asymmetrical results.

While recovery is shorter than the average plastic surgery, you will need to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks, which includes driving, sleeping, and sitting. Putting pressure on the buttocks too soon during recovery can impact the amount of fat re-absorption. It’s essential to follow the recovery instructions from Dr. Kutty and to come to all follow-up visits.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Malik Kutty, offers buttock augmentation with fat grafting as well as the buttock lift for sagging skin, and buttock injections. He will listen to your cosmetic goals and help determine the best way to enhance and contour your buttocks to safely and effectively deliver stunning results.
