Latisse®
Houston - Sugar Land - Katy, Texas
Latisse® is a prescription medication that is designed to help eyelashes grow longer and thicker. Latisse®’s effect on the eyelashes was first discovered by doctors who used it as a treatment for glaucoma. Researchers have since discovered that dabbing the medication along your eyelash line on the upper eyelids encourages the growth of thicker, longer, and darker lashes.
Latisse® has become incredibly popular because of its dramatic effects and ease of use.
Using Latisse®
Latisse® can be applied at home by patients through the use of a simple applicator that is similar to a mascara brush. You will begin to see results after about 6 to 8 weeks. Full results are usually apparent after around sixteen weeks. You will need to maintain your results by applying Latisse® once every several weeks after the initial treatment period, or your eyelashes will slowly revert to their previous appearance.
Latisse® can only be obtained by prescription from a physician, who will evaluate you to assure that you are an appropriate candidate.
Potential Side Effects of Latisse®
Latisse® is usually well-tolerated by most patients, but there are a few potential side effects, including:
- A darkening of your eyelid skin (can usually be reversed)
- Increased brown pigmentation in the colored area of your eye (can be permanent)
- Hair growth in other areas of the skin that are accidentally touched by the medication
- Itchy eyes
- Redness in your eyes
- Hyperpigmentation
The FDA has approved Latisse® for use in stimulating enhanced eyelash growth. This drug has proven especially useful for chemotherapy patients who have completely lost their eyelashes due to treatment.
