Breast lift (mastopexy) can restore a more youthful appearance to the breasts, by eliminating excess skin and elevating the breast.

Sagging of breast tissue can occur with age or prior pregnancy. Dr. Malik Kutty offers the latest techniques in breast lift (or mastopexy) surgery to enhance the shape of the breast and reposition breast tissue to produce a more youthful appearance.

Since one of the main concerns women have is the appearance of the scars, Dr. Kutty works with the patient to develop a plan that will leave as few scars as possible, in the least conspicuous place possible. It is important to remember that while some of the scars can be hidden, they are still present and that is part of the decision-making process for the patient.

Two of the more commonly used methods for breast lift are the "anchor" pattern and the "lollipop" pattern, which does not have a horizontal incision in the breast fold. Dr. Kutty uses the lollipop pattern whenever possible, but the final decision is determined by how much skin has to be removed. Many women are candidates for a "short scar" breast lift which provides maximal lift with smaller incisions.

Breast implants can be used with breast lift, to lift the breast as well as increase size. Breast implants do not have to be used to lift the breasts, however. They are only needed if the patient wants to increase overall size.

Surgery usually involves being sore for a few days, and further time is required to allow the tissues to heal before returning to work. Some sort of support (like a sports bra) is required to let the incisions heal without the weight of the breasts pushing against them, usually for 6 weeks.
