Suction-Assisted Liposuction

Suction-assisted liposuction is commonly referred to simply as liposuction. This is a very commonly done procedure that is used to remove and shape localized deposits of excess fat. It is best performed in patients that are at least close to their ideal weight, because the best results can be achieved in these patients.

Body contour can be improved in essentially any area. Skin tone can be improved as well. Appearance of cellulite, however, is generally not dramatically improved except for the shape.

Suction-assisted liposuction is performed through extremely small punctures, using local anesthesia for most patients. A narrow "cannula" tube is then inserted into the incisions to suction away the fat, permitting precise contouring of desired areas. There are also ways to promote skin contraction.

This liposuction procedure can be completed in our own office while you are fully awake and comfortable, using only local anesthesia. There is minimal downtime, and a garment is worn both for comfort and to shape the body after the procedure. Most patients can return to work the next day.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses ultrasonic waves transmitted through the skin to aid in softening the fat to make removal easier. This type of liposuction can produce somewhat greater tightening of the skin, and it is especially useful in areas where the fat is very fibrous, such as the male chest. Care must be taken with ultrasound-assisted liposuction to avoid problems with the overlying skin.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction refers to liposuction done with injection of a solution that contains local anesthetic. This process makes the area numb, and also makes contouring and shaping more accurate. The solution loosens and softens the fat, aiding in its removal. The local anesthetic provides pain control after surgery and limits bruising.
