BOTOX® COSMETIC AND YOU
The human face is full of many small and large muscles that are responsible for different functions, including facial expressions. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a FDA-approved neuromuscular toxin injectable that works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals that cause your facial muscles to tighten and contract. When injected into the muscles in your face, BOTOX® Cosmetic interrupts nerve signals that cause tension and effectively relax your muscles. The result is a noticeably smoother, more youthful appearance.BOTOX® Cosmetic is most commonly used to treat the following facial areas:

Because BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical procedure, no anesthesia is necessary and the entire process usually only takes about five minutes per treatment area. After, you will not require any downtime to recover and can return to your normal daily activities.
BOTOX® COSMETIC SAFETY
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most widely performed plastic surgery procedures in the United States. Since it was first approved by the FDA in 2002, millions of people have successfully undergone treatment with BOTOX®. And because this is a non-surgical procedure, it’s significantly less risky than other invasive facial plastic surgery options. While safe for nearly everyone to use, BOTOX® Cosmetic is not approved for use in people under the age of 18.
As with any prescription or cosmetic surgery procedure, the potential for side-effects is possible. Side effects are rare and temporary. Some redness, mild swelling, and discomfort may be present in the injection site for up to two days following your treatment. Other minor side-effects may include:
- Allergic reactions to one of the ingredients
- Headache
- Redness or minor swelling in treatment area
- Temporary muscle weakness in surrounding area
- Nausea

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS
AFTER A BOTOX® TREATMENT?
After your treatment, you’ll often begin to see results between 24 and 48 hours. These results will become more noticeable within a week after the procedure. At this point you well begin to see smoother skin and softening of wrinkles.
HOW LONG DOES BOTOX® LAST?
BOTOX® treatments typically last three to six months but can last up to eight months in certain individuals. There are a number of factors, such as diet and prolonged exposure to the sun, that can affect the length of your results. Our plastic surgeon Dr. Malik Kutty can safely re-administer BOTOX® Cosmetic injections every three to six months, or whenever you begin to feel like you could use a touch up.
BOTOX® Cosmetic should only be administered by an experienced practitioner since it’s possible to inject it improperly. Poor injection technique can result in asymmetry, a glassy appearance, or even interfere with your normal eyelid function. An inappropriate injection can also make you look “windswept” or overly smooth, which makes it obvious that treatment was done. Always research the physician who is performing any such procedure to be sure it is done safely and effectively.
